1905 Building

In Focus: Themes in Photography examined the museum’s extensive collection of photographs through a thematic lens. Combining 19th-century historic works with recent acquisitions of contemporary photography, this exhibition highlighted the museum’s commitment to the photographic medium for more than nine decades, which began in 1910 with an exhibition of work organized by Alfred Stieglitz. The museum has continued to expand its photographic holdings to include major works by Uta Barth, Bernd and Hilla Becher, Sophie Calle, John Coplans, Gregory Crewdson, Willie Doherty, Olafur Eliasson, Andreas Gursky, Sharon Lockhart, Shirin Neshat, Catherine Opie, and many other artists featured in this exhibition.
