For more than 150 years, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum has collected, conserved, and exhibited the art of its time. The Buffalo AKG’s extraordinary collection of over 8,300 works has been built in vital part by generous donations from private collectors and artists. The Buffalo AKG continues to acquire works each year to join our world-renowned collection of modern and contemporary art through an active acquisitions program and gifts overseen by its Art Committee. 

The need to maintain the integrity of the Collection and to consider the commitment of future resources means that the same consideration is given to offered gifts as to purchases. Regrettably, due to ever increasing pressures on the space we have available for storage and display, as well as the costs of documenting and caring for new acquisitions, we frequently find ourselves forced to decline offers of gifts to the collection, but please know your offer is appreciated and will be carefully considered.

To propose a donation of a work of art to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum's Fine Art Collection, please use this form. Your proposal will be received by the Curatorial team. Please share as much information as possible and allow for upwards of four weeks for a response. Please note, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum does not accept unsolicited gifts of works of art to the museum via mail nor unsolicited exhibition proposals.

In accordance with our mission to engage and empower widening, inclusive audiences, the Buffalo AKG Art Museum loans program lends objects from its permanent collection to museums and institutions worldwide. Loan requests are considered based on the art-historical importance and scholarly merit of the Borrower’s exhibition, the condition and availability of the object, and the ability of the Borrower to properly care for the object. 

Requests for loans must be received by the Buffalo AKG at least twelve months before the exhibition opening date to accommodate the processing and preparation of the loan. The Buffalo AKG’s outgoing loans program receives a large volume of requests, so late requests may not be accommodated. If late requests are approved, they will be subject to additional charges. All loans are subject to the approval of the Buffalo AKG Director and review by the Buffalo AKG Board of Directors.
