This exhibition featured paintings, drawings, and sculptures gifted by David Anderson and his wife in memory of his mother Martha Jackson, a native Buffalonian, prescient art dealer, and close friend of many of the most significant contemporary artists of her era who worked tirelessly as an advocate for the museum for twenty-five years until her sudden death in 1969.

Born and raised in Buffalo, Sidney Janis went on to become a prominent gallerist for Abstract Expressionists and, later, Pop artists. In 1967, he donated over one hundred works of art from his personal collection to The Museum of Modern Art. Many of these traveled to Buffalo for this special exhibition.
