A native Buffalonian, prescient art dealer, and close friend of many of the most significant contemporary artists of her era, Martha Jackson worked tirelessly as an advocate for the museum for twenty-five years until her sudden death in 1969. Jackson helped forge crucial connections between the museum and the contemporary art community in New York. In 1974, Jackson’s son, David Anderson, and his wife gifted forty-four works by forty artists to the museum in her memory. These paintings, drawings, and sculptures were first exhibited in 1976 in The Martha Jackson Collection at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
