Wish You Were Here explored a creative ecology that flourished in Buffalo in the 1970s comprising collaborative pockets of artistic communities in the visual arts, film, video, performance, literature, and music.

Featuring a comprehensive array of works in all mediums by Jean (Hans) Arp, Joan Miró, and Alexander Calder, this exhibition highlighted the Albright-Knox’s extensive collection of the work of these three modern masters.

This exhibition presented 35 sculptures and works on paper by 19 artists, gifted or bequeathed to the museum by A. Conger Goodyear between 1926 and 1970, as well as a selection of archival material. 

The Long Curve: 150 Years of Visionary Collecting at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery highlighted the history of the Albright-Knox’s extraordinary collection by focusing on the pioneering benefactors and museum professionals who made it possible.

This installation of original letters, photographs, publications, and other documents from the Albright-Knox Archives told the story of the museum's Room of Contemporary Art, which was conceived in 1939.

Virocode: A Disappearance of the Source featured new works related to the artists' Evolving Moisture series, including static photo-sculptures, video projections, and a new experimental strategy that uses micro-loops of video/digital photographs that shimmer within framed LCD screens.

This exhibition featured a selection of rarely seen color photographs from the Library of Congress’s Farm Security Administration (FSA) photography collection.

Victoria Sambunaris's photographs capture the expansive American landscape and the natural and fabricated adaptations that appear throughout it. This exhibition featured approximately 40 photographs from Sambunaris’s body of work.

Videosphere: A New Generation was the first-ever exhibition of works in new media drawn exclusively from the Albright-Knox’s collection. Featuring 26 works by 24 artists, it highlighted the museum’s recent acquisition of new media works with various styles and approaches.

Kathryn Walker’s installation SANGHA was made up of nearly 1,000 miniature pots embellished by the artist, who is also an Emmy Award–winning actress, director, and novelist.

Spotlight on the Collection—Artists in Depth: Picasso, Braque, Léger, Delaunay, presented by The Buffalo News, was the first in a new series of ongoing exhibitions drawn from the Albright-Knox’s collection focusing on important artists whose works the museum has acquired in depth.

Presenting an expanded dialogue between curator, collection, artist, and author, Surveyor combined contemporary artistic commentary with an historical review of the theme.
