In cooperation with the Forest Lawn Heritage Foundation and the Board of Directors of Forest Lawn Cemetery, the museum presented this exhibition of photographs by Buffalo photographers Stanford Lipsey and Seth Colby.

Being & Time: The Emergence of Video Projection featured celebrated video artists Gary Hill, Bruce Nauman, and Bill Viola, along with then-emerging practitioners Willie Doherty, Tony Oursler, and Diana Thater.

The first New Room of Contemporary Art exhibition featured Bernd and Hilla Becher’s photographs of industrial facades, taken from 1970 to 1992.

Dawoud Bey: Portraits 1975–1995 was organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis and presented a 20-year survey of more than 90 images focusing on the artist’s developments in the genre of portraiture.

Co-organized by the Albright-Knox and the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, The Breakthrough Years celebrated and paid tribute to the late work of one of the most important and influential painters of the abstract expressionist movement, Arshile Gorky.

Composed of impressionists, post-impressionists, and modern masters, The William S. Paley Collection included more than 70 paintings, sculptures, and drawings created during the alter half of the 19th century through the 1970s.

In Western New York 1995 was organized by Senior Curator Cheryl Brutvan and Curator Marc Mayer, after viewing nearly 3,000 slides of works in a variety of media by 295 artists.

Outside the Dream: Child Poverty in America was an exhibition of documentary photographs by Stephen Shames, presented on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Community Action Organization of Erie County, Inc. – Head Start.

This exhibition was comprised of woodcuts, etchings, engravings, silkscreens, and lithographs by some of the world’s best-known printmakers, including Albrecht Dürer, Rembrandt van Rijn, James McNeill Whistler, and Francisco Goya.
