Honoring the sustained and unique generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Armand J. Castellani, The Castellani Gift to Western New York was co-organized by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery and the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University, Lewiston, New York. The exhibition featured the Castellanis' significant gifts of contemporary art to both museums.

Over the years, he and his wife had been generous benefactors to both the Albright-Knox and the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University. Their significant gifts of contemporary art to the museum have included such major works as Cy Twombly's Untitled, 1970; Susan Rothenberg's Two-Tone, 1975; and Jess's The Unentitled Graces, 1978. A major gift made to the museum in 1996 that included works by artists such as Anish Kapoor, Michael Kessler, John Pfahl, and Richard Serra were also featured in the exhibition.
