This exhibition of more than sixty paintings dating from the late nineteenth century to the middle of the twentieth century traveled to four museums in Japan after its presentation at the Albright-Knox.

Installations 1964–1997 showcased three decades of work by America's foremost glass artist, Dale Chihuly. The exhibition presented 12 luminous installations designed specifically for the interior architecture of the Albright-Knox.

Imprints: The Photographs of David Plowden was a retrospective of more than one hundred works by one of the most respected and renowned photographers to chronicle the American scene, David Plowden.

Memory: Luba Art and the Making of History was the first exhibition to present the art and culture of the Luba people of Zaire (recently renamed Congo) to the American public.

Honoring the sustained and unique generosity of Mr. and Mrs. Armand J. Castellani, The Castellani Gift to Western New York featured the Castellanis' significant gifts of contemporary art to both the Albright-Knox and the Castellani Art Museum of Niagara University.

In its 20th year, the invitational biennial exhibition featured a range of significant work by 15 artists residing in the eight counties of Western New York.

Highlighting two generations of collecting, this exhibition included a wide selection of 50 works by artists dating from the 15th century — including Rembrandt, Redon, Rouault, and Johns.

An emerging African-American artist residing in Austin, Texas, Charles's work had recently gained national attention and acclaim. This was the artist's first solo exhibition in a major museum.

Michel Verjux: Light Connection was Verjux’s first project for a North American museum, superimposing five projected circles from (or onto) two buildings of different period and style.

Masterworks: Italian Design, 1960-1994 was organized by the Denver Art Museum and circulated by The American Federation of Arts as the first major comprehensive survey of contemporary Italian design since The Museum of Modern Art in New York presented The New Domestic Landscape in 1972.
