Teresita Fernández is best known for her sculptures that address the relationship between vision and perception. These works often take forms resembling phenomena in the natural world, such as rainbows, beaches, and oceans. Fernández is fascinated by the complexities of seeing and seeks to offer a transcendent space for viewers, noting that "to be blinded and to be visually dazzled is a very similar experience." In Mirror Canopy, she explores the cultural history of mirrors and the idea of preciousness in an installation that, as a profoundly beautiful visual encounter, recalls a cascade of water or ice.
