The Impressionist Revolution and the Advent of Abstract Art

Publication Details

This catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Monet and the Impressionist Revolution, 1860–1910," on view at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery from November 15, 2015, to March 20, 2016. This book explores the transformative moments and formal innovations in advanced Western art in the second half of the nineteenth century that tilled the ground for the advent of modernist abstract painting around 1910. Highlighting works of Impressionist, post-Impressionist, and early abstract art from the Albright-Knox's acclaimed collection, it is the first publication dedicated to this segment of the museum's holdings.
