Today, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery announced a new project from its Innovation Lab: The Society for the Advancement of Construction-Related Arts (SACRA), in collaboration with artist and University at Buffalo professor of architecture Dennis Maher.

On Thursday, May 26, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will open a new exhibition, Shade: Clyfford Still / Mark Bradford, featuring the work of celebrated American artists Mark Bradford (born 1961) and Clyfford Still (1904–1980).

On November 15, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will open a new exhibition comprising prominent works by Claude Monet (French, 1840–1926) and other leading artists associated with the Impressionist movement. Monet and the Impressionist Revolution, 1860–1910, conceived by Peggy Pierce Elfvin Director Janne Sirén and organized by Sirén and Godin-Spaulding Curator & Curator for the Collection Holly E. Hughes, will feature forty late nineteenth- and early twentieth-century works from the Albright-Knox’s renowned Collection, as well as a carefully selected group of paintings by Monet on loan from museums around the United States. The exhibition will illustrate the artist’s seminal contributions to the modernist revolution.

The newest installation in the Public Art Initiative is Rewilding New York (Community Seed Stations) by artist Jenny Kendler, involving the community dispersal of native wildflower seeds to residents throughout the Western New York area, revitalizing and reintroducing these plants throughout our region.

The Albright-Knox’s Public Art Initiative is seeking shirt donations for its newest public art project, a work by artist Kaarina Kaikkonen to be installed at the Buffalo Niagara International Airport. Kaikkonen is internationally renowned for her use of clothing to produce installations that alter our perception of our shared lives and shared spaces.

On Saturday, June 27, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery hosted a launch event for its free, newly developed, interactive mobile gaming application, ArtGames 2.0, a product of the AK Innovation Lab. The launch event was held at the AK and included live music, giveaways, art activities, and games for all ages.

Today, the Albright-Knox’s Public Art Initiative—in partnership with Erie County and the City of Buffalo—unveiled the newest installation of public art at Canalside in downtown Buffalo. The artwork, Silent Poets by internationally acclaimed artist Jaume Plensa, is located on the Great Lawn at the Central Wharf.

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery announced a major new initiative today. The AK Innovation Lab will serve as a place where creativity, innovative thinking, and collaboration combine to develop dynamic approaches to pressing issues in museums and contemporary society. 

Shark Girl, the wildly popular sculpture that is part of the Albright- Knox Art Gallery’s Public Art Initiative—an innovative partnership with Erie County and the City of Buffalo—will take a few weeks off for some well-deserved pampering in the form of light conservation. Beginning today, she will temporarily depart her current location at Canalside, as she prepares to look her best for the thousands of selfies in which she will be featured this summer.

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery will hold a community meeting on Monday, March 23, at 6 pm. There, the AK will share findings from an initial round of public conversations and focus groups held recently to discuss the need for campus refurbishment and development. The AK’s world-renowned art Collection, an engine for cultural tourism and regional economic development, has grown exponentially since the museum’s last major expansion more than fifty years ago, and its current facilities are in urgent need of attention.

Beginning Tuesday, February 10, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will offer free admission to all residents of Erie County through Sunday, February 15, a small gesture of gratitude on behalf of the Albright-Knox to both Erie County and its residents for the annual funding the museum receives. Peggy Pierce Elfvin Director Janne Sirén and Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz made the official announcement at a press conference on February 6.

The Albright-Knox Art Gallery announced today that it has scheduled an additional public conversation about the museum’s growth and development, as the recent series of meetings in which community members were invited to share their thoughts and ideas for the future of the museum was disrupted by November’s severe snowstorm. The additional meeting will take place on Monday, January 12, 2015, from 6 to 8 pm, at the museum.
