Docent Program
Docents play a vital role in educating and engaging visitors to the Buffalo AKG Art Museum by leading tours for all ages and other face-to-face interactions with guests to the museum.
What are docents?
Docents are volunteers 18 years and older specially trained by the Learning and Creativity Department. They lead tours for visitors by sparking discussion about works in the museum’s collection and on view in special exhibitions. More than educating visitors, docents find creative ways to engage with art, resulting in interactive tour experiences and other interactions.
Who are the Buffalo AKG docents?
Our docents empower visitors, inspire creativity, and foster open dialogue and discussion. They come from a range of backgrounds, from those in college, to working professionals, retirees, artists, and stay-at-home parents. When a person becomes a Buffalo AKG docent, they join a wonderful community of art lovers and partake in additional opportunities such as ongoing enrichment, professional development, and community-building events!
Buffalo AKG Art Museum Docents are members of the Museum Education Consortium of Buffalo.
