Erin Shirreff characterizes the works in her Knife series as portraits of sculptures that no longer exist, recordings of real things made in time and space. The photographs portray rudimentary knives, flints, and other pointy, vaguely threatening implements, all of which the artist sculpted on a small scale with modeling clay.
