Monograph (no. 3) is part of a series by Erin Shirreff that explores the space of the book and the way images are reproduced in it. Each of the five prints in this work was folded to emulate an unbound offset press sheet. If one were to nest the pages to form a book, the incongruent forms depicted in the images would be “properly” paired to present complete sculptures. Scale is ambiguous at first glance, but close looking reveals that the photographed objects are plaster and paper maquettes that Shirreff modeled after printed reproductions of mid-twentieth-century sculpture.
