Clay Classes

Adults of all levels of experience are invited to sign up for clay classes at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum. Registration is required. All supplies are provided. Classes with low enrollment may be canceled.

Please note: All clay projects will be glazed and fired. Pick-up dates will be arranged following each course to accommodate kiln-firing schedules.

Hand-Building: Giftable Trinkets

Two-week series, Ages 16+

Mondays, December 2, 9, from 1:30–3:30 pm
Saturdays, December 7, 14  from 10:30 am–12:30 pm  
$50 per class (Buffalo AKG members save 15%)

It’s the season of gifting! Create a personalized trinket or bowl and learn techniques with clay using molds, tools, and transfers. Sign up for one individual class or sign up for both!

Make a Bowl, Take a Bowl

Ages 16+

Saturdays, January 25; February 1, from 2–4 pm
$40 (Buffalo AKG Members save 15%)

Learn a new skill and support a good cause! Create two useable bowls, one to take home and one to donate to charity. Donated bowls will contribute to our Empty Bowls fundraising event on February 19, 2025, supporting organizations fighting food insecurity.

Beginner's Wheel Throwing

Three-Week Series, Ages 16+

Saturdays, March 8, 15, 22, from 10:30 am–12:30 pm
$150 (Buffalo AKG Members save 15%)

In this three-week series, learn to throw on a pottery wheel! Make up to three finished pieces on the wheel. Create, decorate, and glaze work to take home. (One accessible wheel is available for those who use a wheelchair.) All levels of experience are welcome!

Intermediate Wheel Throwing

Four-Week Series, 16+

Saturdays, March 1, 8, 15, 22, from 2–4 pm
$200 (Buffalo AKG Members save 15%)

This four-week series is geared toward people with some prior experience. Create up to four finished pieces on the wheel. Create, trim, decorate, and glaze pieces to take home. (One accessible wheel is available for those who use a wheelchair.)
