Wyatt Kahn
American, born 1983
This print is based on the drawings of artist Wyatt Kahn, who is known primarily for his compositions of closely spaced shaped canvases, like the 2013 example also in the Albright-Knox’s collection. Here, rigid lines intersect to form layered triangles suggestive of the cross section of an architectural structure. However, the sense of continuity among the white triangles contained within this construction and the white border (which gives shape to its right side) unsettles the distinction between figure and ground. This play between positive and negative space, between real two-dimensionality and illusory three-dimensionality is a hallmark of Kahn’s work across mediums.
