One of Kelly Richardson’s earliest works, Glow captures a familiar detail of any given suburban neighborhood on a summer’s night—the glow of a television in a dark room. Simple in presentation, the work is actually a video loop of the light emanating from a TV set. Richardson grew up as part of the first generation for whom a television was a ubiquitous part of the household, not unlike a sofa or chair. Glow directly reflects her interest in mediated realities, as we in the West mostly experience and understand the world now through a screen, whether television, computer, or cinema.
