Become a Docent at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum or Join the Museum Ambassadors Program

Monday, December 20, 2021

The Albright-Knox is pleased to present two opportunities for people to participate with the museum: the Docent Program for the future Buffalo AKG Art Museum and the Museum Ambassadors program, taking place February–June at Albright-Knox Northland.

Docent Program

Docents play a vital role in educating and engaging visitors to the future Buffalo AKG Art Museum by leading tours for all ages and other face-to-face interactions with guests to the museum.

What are docents?

Docents are volunteers 18 years and older specially trained by the Learning and Creativity Department. They lead tours for visitors by sparking discussion about works in the museum’s collection and on view in special exhibitions. More than educating visitors, docents find creative ways to engage with art to make visitor experiences interactive and dynamic.

Who are the Buffalo AKG docents?

Docents empower visitors, inspire creativity, and foster open dialogue and discussion. When a person becomes a Buffalo AKG docent, they join a wonderful community of art lovers and partake in additional opportunities such as field trips, museum committees, and more.

Buffalo AKG Art Museum Docents are members of the Museum Education Consortium of Buffalo.

Become a Docent

We are excited to begin recruiting docents for the future Buffalo AKG Art Museum! We are looking for fun and engaging individuals to join our docent team. Training to become a docent will consist of a weekly two-hour class that begins the week of April 4, 2022, and continues through the week of September 26, 2022 (except for a break during the month of July). The day(s) of the week will be determined by a poll after the team has been chosen. Graduation will take place in early October 2022.

Applications are due by Monday, January 10, 2022.

Museum Ambassadors Program

What is it like to be a museum educator? Do you want a sneak peek behind the scenes?

Museum Ambassadors in grades 11 and 12 focus on learning about museum education while creating their own activities, lessons, and programs for all ages. Students will meet with curators to learn about exhibitions and meet with other staff members to learn about museum careers. The program culminates in a public evening programmed by the Museum Ambassadors geared toward teens.

The 2022 Museum Ambassadors program will take place on Wednesday evenings from 4 to 6 pm, from February 9 through June 3, 2022, at Albright-Knox Northland (612 Northland Avenue) with occasional meetings/field trips on Fridays and weekends.

Learn more and apply at www.albrightknox.org/museumambassadors.

Applications are due by Monday, January 3, 2022.
