While many artists have worked solely in the medium, collage has failed to rise to the popularity of drawing, painting, and sculpture. Surface Matter: Collage from the Collection revealed nearly 100 years of collage and exemplified how it infiltrated a century of artmaking and continues to relate to the artistic expressions of the 21st century. This exhibition included works by artists such as Ronald Bladen, Charles Clough, Joseph Cornell, Jim Dine, Seymour Drumlevich, Jess, Joshua Neustein, Larry Rivers, Anne Ryan, Kurt Schwitters, and Leon Polk Smith.
