Guadalupe Maravilla

Lives and works in Brooklyn, New York

Combining sculpture, painting, performance, and installation, Guadalupe Maravilla (b. 1976) grounds his transdisciplinary practice in activism and healing. Engaging a wide variety of visual cultures, his work is autobiographical, referencing his lone, undocumented migration to the U.S. due to the Salvadoran Civil War. Maravilla lives and works in Brooklyn. His work has been included in recent group exhibitions such as the Liverpool Biennial and the 14th Gwangju Biennale. A solo exhibition featuring a newly commissioned immersive installation at the ICA Watershed, Boston, went on view in 2023. His work is in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, and the Whitney Museum of American Art, all in New York, and many other national and international collections.
