Artwork by student from Art on the Go! program
Education Exhibition Hallway
The Albright-Knox is proud to present this exhibition of works created by students in the museum's after-school program, Art on the Go! The featured artworks are by students in Kindergarten through Grade 8 from nine participating schools: Bennett Park Montessori, Waterfront Elementary School, Discovery School, Dr. Antonia Pantoja Community School of Academic Excellence, Dr. Charles R. Drew Science Magnet School, Martin Luther King Multicultural Institute, West Buffalo Charter School, Harriet Ross Tubman School, and PS 59 Annex.
The artworks featured here were created as part of the Albright-Knox’s Art on the Go! program, which aims to bring greater exposure to the arts with after-school programs throughout Buffalo. Through partnerships with other cultural organizations, including the Cullen Foundation and Say Yes to Education Buffalo, the intent of our program is to engage students in interdisciplinary and collaborative projects that focus on the humanities. With the use of visual-thinking strategies, students are invited to interpret—through their own lens—artworks from the Albright-Knox’s collection. Open-ended lesson plans enable them to explore these reflections in the creation of their own unique artworks.
Our priority is to present lessons that support student-driven learning, student autonomy, and independence. To balance these goals, it is also necessary to foster collaboration, communication, and cooperation toward a heightened sense of community.
Admission to this exhibition is free on M&T FIRST FRIDAYS @ THE GALLERY.
