English Prints from the Collection highlighted the Albright-Knox's rich holdings and provided an overview of post-war English printmaking. It featured works by several important artists, all tracing the development of the medium in the post-war period. For example, the Surrealist period was represented by the undulating, biomorphic forms of Stanley William Hayter. Hayter ran an important print workshop named Atelier 17, which influenced an entire generation of post-war printmakers. The colorful work of Patrick Caulfield, the linear art of David Hockney, and the detailed, engaging creations of Eduardo Paolozzi are all fine examples of the English Pop movement. Henry Moore is one of the many sculptors who also made outstanding drawings and prints, and an example of his two-dimensional work was included in this exhibition. Works by Frank Auerbach, Patrick Heron, Howard Hodgkin, Ben Nicholson, and Bridget Riley were also featured.
This exhibition was organized by Curator of Modern Art Kenneth Wayne.
