Thursday, March 17, 2016

Buffalo, NY — On Sunday, March 20, the Albright-Knox Art Gallery will host a free release celebration for The Impressionist Revolution and the Advent of Abstract Art, written by Peggy Pierce Elfvin Director Dr. Janne Sirén. The event will take place in AK Café from 4 to 6 pm, where Dr. Sirén will be on hand to sign copies.

The Impressionist Revolution and the Advent of Abstract Art explores the transformative moments and formal innovations in avant-garde Western art in the second half of the nineteenth century. These tilled the ground for the advent of abstract painting around 1910. It is the first catalogue dedicated to this particular segment of the museum’s holdings, highlighting fifty Impressionist, post-Impressionist, and early abstract paintings and sculptures from the Albright-Knox’s world-renowned collection.

Books can be purchased in Shop AK or on the Albright-Knox website at www.albrightknox.org. Prices are $27 for Members and $30 for the general public. The following donors generously supported the publication: Lynn Factor, Sheldon Inwentash, Eleanor Ash, Mary F. Bell, John and Diane Hurley, Jr., Janet Knapp, Robert and Evie Miller, Milton and Helen Weiser, Dorothy H. Westhafer, Mary Kirsch Boehm and Raymond F. Boehm, and Anne Gunderman-Vaughan. The reception hosts are Carolyn and John Yurtchuk.

An admission ticket will be required to view Monet and the Impressionist Revolution, 1860–1910.
