How long do most people stop to look at a work of art—five minutes, 30 seconds? The artist Jonathan VanDyke will stand and contemplate Jackson Pollock’s Convergence, 1952, for forty hours over five days for a performance work called The Long Glance. In this talk, VanDyke will share discoveries from his performance and discuss connections to his other work. He will also give a short reprise performance earlier on June 3, from 1:30 to 5 pm.
VanDyke's original performance of The Long Glance will take place at the Gallery from Saturday, May 28, through Thursday, June 2, 2011.
