About Black Squirrel Distillery

Black Squirrel Distillery opened its doors at 1595 Elmwood Avenue in 2015 after two years of planning, research, and development by three founders: Jason Schwinger, Brian Fending, and Matthew Pelkey. The craft farm distillery ferments New York State maple, distills it in copper pot stills, and ages it in French oak barrels to create small batches of distinctive spirits. Its initial product, Black Squirrel Aged Spirit, is like rum’s smooth New England cousin, neither sweet nor harsh. Its second offering, Mapleshine, is a multiply-distilled, filtered, and non-aged version of Black Squirrel that some might call moonshine. The distillery has recently introduced the first of a line of four liqueurs. Ardilla Negra combines Grade A maple syrup with house-made cold-pressed coffee and aged Caribbean rum.
