Biff Henrich has played an important role in the Western New York art scene both as an artist and an arts administrator.

Henrich has exhibited extensively at a variety of galleries and museums including Artists Space, Buffalo AKG Art Museum, California Museum of Photography, Contemporary Art Museum of Houston, PS 1, and the Visual Studies Workshop. His work is part of numerous private and public collections across the country including the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Castellani Art Museum, Light Work Gallery, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art.

Living among Buffalo’s rich history and architecture created an inspiring landscape for this body of Henrich’s work.

Henrich has been honored with two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships and a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship. Most recently, he received an artist grant from the New York State Council on the Arts in support of this book.

Kelly Hayes McAlonie, FAIA, LEED AP, is Director of Campus Planning at the University at Buffalo, where she leads implementation of the university’s Comprehensive Master Plan and advances strategic planning across its three campuses. Her career centers on educational architecture and public engagement, strengthening the relationship between design, learning environments, and civic life. She has held multiple leadership roles within the American Institute of Architects and is an active member of the Association of University Architects.

In 2011, Hayes McAlonie collaborated with Despina Stratigakos and Mattel on the design and launch of "Barbie: I Can Be…Architect," broadening public awareness of architecture as a profession for women and girls. Architect Barbie was later featured in the 2023 film Barbie.

For more than two decades, Hayes McAlonie has researched the life and work of Louise Blanchard Bethune, FAIA, the first professional woman architect in the United States. She has written and lectured extensively on Bethune’s legacy and is the author of Louise Blanchard Bethune: Every Woman Her Own Architect, published by SUNY Press in 2023. In 2025, she received the AIA National Award for Excellence in Public Architecture.
