Photography Session Policies and Terms of Agreement

Please review our Photography Session Terms of Agreement below and share this information with your photographer(s) and group members before your visit. Each photographer and one representative from your group will be asked to sign a waiver with our Photography Session Policies upon arrival for your session.

Photography Session Policies

While participating in a Photography Session at the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, I/my group agree(s) to abide by the following policies:

  • Everyone in my group must follow the museum’s Visitor & Member Code of Conduct.
  • Sessions can accommodate a maximum of 20 guests, including photographers.
    • Please note that the limit is 10 guests, including photographers, for the Lyke Family Sculpture Court.
  • Guests must use restrooms adjacent to selected locations for outfit changes, as well as hair product and makeup application or touch-ups.
  • Touching, leaning, or placing items on artworks or artwork platforms is not permitted.
    • Those being photographed must be at least six feet away from any artwork or platform containing artwork.
    • The photographer(s) and related equipment must be at least ten feet away from any artwork or platform containing artwork.
  • Confetti, glitter, and balloons are not permitted.
  • Any plants or flowers must be held and must not leave any residue.
    • Please note that plants and flowers are not permitted in the Lyke Family Sculpture Court.
    • When photographing in both the Knox and the Gundlach Buildings during the same session, any plants or flowers must be transported outside.
  • Trained service animals are welcome; however, emotional support animals and pets are not permitted in the museum.
  • Furniture and large props are not permitted.
  • Drone photography is not permitted.
  • If my group is late for our session, our session will still end as scheduled.
  • Food and drink, including chewing gum, is not permitted during the session.
  • Groups are permitted in designated areas only and are subject to any additional requests by museum staff (for example, restrictions on the use of lighting, the placement of equipment, and the capturing of select artworks).
    • Please note that lighting equipment is not permitted in the Lyke Family Sculpture Court, nor is the use of a camera's built-in flash.
  • The photographer(s) and all group members will be responsible for citing the location of the photographs as “Buffalo AKG Art Museum” if/when publishing the photographs in any print or digital materials or platforms. (Optionally, if/when posting on social media platforms, you may tag the museum @buffaloakgartmuseum on Instagram or @buffaloakg on Facebook and X.)
  • The photographer(s) will be responsible for clearing any rights for artworks protected by copyright (if any) included in any photographs or videos, citing captured artwork, and paying any costs of artwork clearances. The photographer(s) must then send proof of rights clearance to the museum. The museum assumes no responsibility for any royalties or fees claimed by any artist or their agent(s). Information on specific artwork clearances is available upon request.
  • If anyone in my group is not following the Code of Conduct and/or Photography Session Policies, that person and/or my entire group may be asked to leave the museum without refund.

Payment

  • Full payment is due no later than one week before the session.

Cancellation

  • If you need to cancel a scheduled Photography Session, please contact Senior Manager of Operations Pamela Martin at least one week prior to the session. If the cancellation is made 48 hours or less ahead of the session, you agree to forfeit a cancellation fee of 15% of your payment, unless the cancellation is due to inclement weather or a similar emergency.
  • If the Buffalo AKG is no longer able to honor the agreed upon session date, we will inform you as soon as possible and work with you to reschedule. If we cannot find an agreed upon date to reschedule, we will issue a complete refund.
