Join us for a film screening of Breaking the Code, a documentary film about the life and career of artist Vernon Fisher.
Born to rural Texas farmers in 1943, Vernon Fisher's childhood exposure to painting was only as "something you did to houses." By the 1980s, he was exhibiting alongside Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, establishing himself as one of the most important artists of the 20th century. Breaking the Code introduces Fisher to a new generation while also giving the many who already know his work an intimate look at his life and art.
The Buffalo AKG hosted a major retrospective of the work of this Texas-based artist in 1989, and the film features interviews with former curator Cheryl Brutvan and former chief curator Michael Auping.
Doors open at 6:30 pm, and the film starts at 7 pm.
The Stanford and Judith Lipsey Auditorium is located on the second floor of the Knox Building and can be accessed by the elevator across from the Family Room. There is accessible seating along both sides of the Auditorium, as well as in the two back corners. Assistive Listening Devices and American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation for people who are Deaf or hard of hearing are available upon request. To schedule an ASL interpreter for an event, please submit a request at least two weeks in advance. The closest restrooms are on the first floor of the Knox Building in the same hallway as the Moog Inc. Visitor Services Desk.
