Join us to celebrate The Freedom Wall with the artists—John Baker, Julia Bottoms, Chuck Tingley, and Edreys Wajed—and the community. Enjoy a free cookout in partnership with Buffalo United Front and music from Drea d'Nur, the African American Cultural Center, the Performing Arts High School Choir, and DJ Reazon. Learn about the project and participate in art activities from the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. This event will be held rain or shine.
About The Freedom Wall
The Freedom Wall will depict portraits of 28 notable civil rights leaders in American history, past and present, on a large concrete wall at Michigan Avenue and East Ferry Street. The scale of the wall creates a unique opportunity to present a historical narrative that recognizes well-known national activists alongside equally important but less-widely-known local leaders. The work is being painted over the course of summer 2017 by Buffalo-based artists John Baker, Julia Bottoms, Chuck Tingley, and Edreys Wajed. Learn More
