George Catlin (1796–1872) was an American painter, author, and traveler who specialized in portraits of Native Americans in the Old West. George Catlin: An American View brought together 62 works by this 19th-century artist and explorer.

In landscapes, portraits, and engravings, Catlin recorded the rituals, traditions, and individuals of numerous Native American nations. Also included in the exhibition was a series of 26 paintings entitled “Voyages of Discovery of La Salle,” featuring scenes of Niagara Falls and the Western New York frontier.

This exhibition was organized by Associate Curator Cheryl Brutvan.
