This three-week oil painting course focuses on building confidence, decisiveness, and strong brushwork by working small. Students will create a series of mini oil paintings from reference photos, encouraging experimentation and low-pressure learning.
Session Structure
Session One: Mini Paintings and Brush Economy
Students will create multiple small oil paintings using reference images provided. The focus is on simplifying shapes, confident brushwork, and efficient color mixing. Students are encouraged to wipe down and restart panels as part of the learning process.
Session Two: Refining Decisions Through Repetition
Students continue working on mini paintings, applying lessons from the first session while developing stronger compositional and color choices. Finished examples will be available for reference and discussion.
Session Three: Scaling Up
Students choose one successful mini painting and scale it up to an 8 x 10 panel. This session focuses on translating the same decision-making and brush confidence to a larger surface, giving students tools they can carry into future paintings.
