Geometric forms in different shades of red, green, and light brown shape this abstract landscape. A large green triangular shape stripped with seven black furrows, stretches from the middle of the top edge to the bottom-right corner and toward to the bottom-left corner. A dark red shape with a scalloped edge borders the right side of the triangle, and a light brown sphere patterned with five horizontal waves peeks out from behind the triangle’s left side.
  • Le Panthéon et Saint-Étienne-du-Mont (The Pantheon and Saint-Étienne-du-Mont), ca. 1903-1906

    Raoul Dufy

A large building topped by a dome held aloft by classical pillars dominates this brightly lit city scene. The building extends from the right edge of the canvas. On the left, a clear blue skills fills the area above a church with a large bell tower and a section of yellow cobblestones partially filled by a number of pedestrians.
  • Untitled (intern "Shape 7") (KG/O 2010_8031L), 2010

    Katharina Grosse

This abstract sculpture appears overall like an oversized piece of paper with a V-shaped divot cut out of the right side and curling edges. It balances on the floor near its center. The underside of the plastic form is white, but bright patches of spray-painted yellow, blue, green, purple, orange, black, gray, and pink cover the top, overlapping and dripping onto one another.
  • Carnaval d'Arlequin (Carnival of Harlequin), 1924-1925

    Joan Miró

This painting features a beige-color room full of fantastical creatures performing music and acrobatics, and floating through the air. These colorful beings are shaped like musical instruments, insects, animals, and mermaids and interact with instruments, musical notes, a ladder, dice, unicycle, a shooting star, and other objects. A window at top right looks out onto a landscape, and beneath it is a table with a fish, a globe, and papers.
  • La Musique, 1939

    Henri Matisse

Two women look out toward the viewer from this brightly colored painting. The artist depicted these women using simple, flat shapes with dark outlines. The woman in a caramel colored dress at left sits on a floor cushion next to sheet music. The woman at right wears a marine blue jumpsuit with yellow triangles at the bottom of the legs. She has one foot on the floor and one on the couch on which she sits while playing guitar. A red tile floor contrasts with a black wall decorated with large green leaves.
  • Peristyle: Five Lines, 1963-1964

    George Rickey

    Peristyle: Five Lines
  • Secrets and Lies, 2009

    Gillian Wearing

The three stills from this video work feature, from left to right: a figure wearing a mask with the features of a Caucasian woman, a shoulder-length blonde wig, and a denim shirt; a figure wearing a green-gray, gargoyle-like mask and a black tuxedo jacket and bowtie over a white shirt; and a figure wearing a mask with the features of an older Caucasian woman, a short brown wig, and a light blue, quarter-zip fleece.
