Born in Memphis, Tennessee, James Little is a New York-based artist with ties to the region dating back to his time as an MFA student at Syracuse University in the 1970s. His rigorous abstract work draws on the formalism of Clement Greenberg, Hilton Kramer, and Sol Lewitt to reinvigorate painting practice in a manner uniquely Little’s own. For the last five decades Little’s work has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions. His paintings are included in many public and private collections in the United States and internationally, including the Newark Museum of Art, Newark, New Jersey; The Menil Collection, Houston, Texas; The Studio Museum in Harlem, New York, New York; Art in Embassies Program, N’Djamena Collection, Chad, Central Africa; and Maatschappij Arti Et Amicitiae, Amsterdam, Holland, to name just a few.
