In this artmaking activity with artist Edra Soto, visitors will be invited to adorn the bottles featured in Soto's Open 24 Hours with cast clay seashells, reimagining the definition of beauty in our personal and shared spaces through the creation of these newly enhanced hybrids.
Edra Soto's Open 24 Hours is an interactive installation on view in Open House: Domestic Thresholds by Heather Hart, Edra Soto, and Rodney Taylor that highlights our discard culture through the presentation of liquor bottles collected in the artist’s neighborhood. Over the course of the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to graft remembrances of Soto's Puerto Rican heritage upon these discarded materials. The work prompts visitors to consider the nature of urban space, cross-cultural dynamics, the legacy of colonialism, and personal responsibility.
Open House Events
This event is presented on the occasion of Open House: Domestic Thresholds by Heather Hart, Edra Soto, and Rodney Taylor, which features projects that explore how people build connections to others both inside and outside the walls of those structures we call home. Throughout the course of the exhibition, join us at Albright-Knox Northland for related performances, workshops, and special events.
