Poland’s Artistic Heritage: Selected Paintings from the Kosciuszko Foundation
Saturday, March 21, 1992–Sunday, May 3, 1992
1905 Building
Held in conjunction with a Polish festival of cultural events which was presented on the occasion of the Greater Buffalo Opera Company’s production of King Roger, this exhibition featured a selection of paintings by important Polish artists from the 19th and early 20th centuries.
The exhibition included paintings depicting Poland’s history, its landscape and every day life, as well as a selection of portraits. Significant works by artists who worked in Poland such as Olga Boznanska, a sensitive portraitist with a nervous fluid style; Jozef Chelmonski and Jan Matejko, who had a passion for color and a spontaneous bravado in their work; and Jacek Malczewski, who created pictures of mystical patriotism, full of hidden symbols, were among the paintings on view.
This exhibition was organized by the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
