Before and After Again is an exhibition of artwork, prose, and poetry by the Buffalo-based artists and cultural producers Julia Bottoms, Tiffany Gaines, and Jillian Hanesworth. Their works respond to the tragic slaying of ten Buffalo residents on May 14, 2022, at the Tops Friendly Market on Jefferson Avenue in Buffalo, New York.  

Sin Wai Kin's It’s Always You  encourages viewers to reflect on the performance and commodification of identity in our present moment. It features a boyband of Sin’s construction in which they perform dressed up as each of the band’s four members—The Universe, The Storyteller, The One, and Wai King (a pun on the artist’s name).

After the Sun—Forecasts from the North surveys a generational response to the precarious state of our natural environment. Historically, art from the Nordic region has been closely tied to depictions of nature. It is no surprise, then, that a diverse group of artists with strong ties to Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden question what it means to depict landscape today in a time of intensifying climate crisis. After the Sun considers how emergencies at a Northern latitude reverberate globally and asks what images are generated in response.

This touring retrospective, the first survey of Stanley Whitney’s work ever assembled, demonstrates the full breadth of his innovative abstractions and the true power of his paintings to give their viewers space to feel what it means to be human, room to mentally wander, and to gather the strength to survive.

Narsiso Martinez: From These Hands/De Estas Manos, the artist’s first solo exhibition on the East Coast, will feature a selection of artworks made in the last five years, all of which combine drawing and painting on reclaimed produce boxes.

Clyfford Still: A Legacy for Buffalo includes all thirty-three of the paintings by iconic early innovator of Abstract Expressionism in the collection of Buffalo AKG, alongside documentation of his relationship with Buffalo from the museum’s archives.

Inaugurating the Buffalo AKG’s new Glass Box Theater, Lap-See Lam: Dreamers’ Quay welcomes visitors into a 360-degree immersive moving-image shadow play.

This sculptural installation, a room covered entirely in mirrors into which viewers can enter, has become one of the most beloved works in the Buffalo AKG’s collection and is the centerpiece of Looking Back: Lucas Samaras’s Mirrored Room. As a central feature of the freely accessible Seymour H. Knox Building, this installation celebrates the way our community has seen itself reflected—literally and figuratively—in the museum.

Common Sky is both a work of art and a functional canopy that encloses the AKG’s Town Square, situated between the 1905 Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers Building and the 1962 Seymour H. Knox Building.

Chorus of the Deep is a monumental glass tile mosaic that invites viewers to immerse themselves in an oceanic world.

Miriam Bäckström pushed the limits of photography to create the specially commissioned woven tapestry installation, Others Will Know, for the lower level lobby of the Buffalo AKG’s Jeffrey E. Gundlach building. 

Debuting the newly renovated Hemicycle Gallery of the Buffalo AKG’s Robert and Elisabeth Wilmers Building, Through a Modernist Lens: Buffalo and the Photo-Secession will explore the museum's historic photography collection, which traces back to 1910.
