In this special presentation, the Albright-Knox revisits an exhibition of the past. Join Godin-Spaulding Senior Curator for the Collection Holly E. Hughes on a trip down memory lane in a talk about Bodily Space: New Obsessions in Figurative Sculpture.
Organized by Hughes, the 2004 exhibition explored the ways in which contemporary artists interpret the figurative tradition in art and featured loaned works by an international group of sculptors, many of whom, then, had not been previously exhibited at the Albright-Knox, including Janine Antoni, Maurizio Cattelan, Katharina Fritsch, Robert Gober, Duane Hanson, Juan Muñoz, and Tony Oursler, among others. Marking the first large-scale project Hughes organized at the museum, she will explore the impetus behind its theme, the challenges in bringing it to fruition, and how the experience helped shape her approach to organizing and installing future exhibitions.

About the Speaker
Holly E. Hughes is Godin-Spaulding Senior Curator for the Collection at the Albright-Knox. Her curatorial practice involves organizing exhibitions from the museum’s collection and working with world-renowned artists such as Jason Middlebrook on site-specific installations at the museum. Hughes holds undergraduate degrees in fine art, with a concentration in photography, and art history from Buffalo State College and a master’s degree with a major concentration in contemporary art and a minor concentration in Indigenous art from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
