Ellen Rutt—who has created work in Buffalo as part of the Public Art Initiative and currently has work on view in Hi-Vis—will execute one of her signature performative paintings on the AKG's Great Lawn.

The performance is the culmination of Rutt's process of physical research, in which she explores sites in the region that interest her, dragging her canvas along in tow, and capturing the essence of the space and its history through rubbings, note-taking, and the use of dirt as a medium. Rutt will complete this work in a large-scale, performative painting throughout the day on May 24, with a rain date of May 25. Everyone is welcome to view Rutt working on the Great Lawn. Museum visitors will have a unique vantage point from above through the windows on Floor 2 of the Gundlach Building.
