Each year for the last ten years, Victoria Sambunaris has set out from her home in New York to cross the United States by car, alone with her camera. Her photographs capture the expansive American landscape and the natural and fabricated adaptations that appear throughout it.

In this one-hour illustrated artist’s talk, Sambunaris will discuss selected photographs from her travels; the evolution of her work; her relationship to the history, geology, and evolution of place; the natural versus the man-made landscape; and the process of discovery through travel. She will also share some of her personal influences, impressions, and anecdotes.

This talk is presented on the occasion of the special exhibition Victoria Sambunaris: Taxonomy of a Landscape, on view through Sunday, January 22.
