All are invited to our NEW annual event, Play Break! 

From Thursday, April 4, to Sunday, April 7, 2024, join us for interactive art events and activities suitable for all ages. This fun-filled break will end with the solar eclipse that can be seen from the Great Lawn. As our first Play Break, we are eager for our community to attend and share feedback. 

Check out our exciting lineup of events below. Registration is not required. In gratitude to Erie County for its generous support of the Buffalo AKG Art Museum, Play Break is free to Erie County residents!

LEGO of Your Limits and Space Out!

Thursday, April 4; Friday, April 5, 10 am–8 pm

Come space out with LEGOs in Creative Commons! To celebrate the eclipse, Creative Commons will be filled with cosmically colored bricks to build the spaceship of your dreams, and outer-space prompts to send your imagination flying to the moon.

Art Play Pop-Up (with Curious Rabbit Art) (Ages 3–8)

This drop-in workshop was designed for visitors ages 3 to 8—that means it might get messy, but it also means it will definitely be fun! All guests (even adults) are welcome to join in and explore the process of making art, through play! Discover multiple sensory art stations, try a variety of different materials, and be inspired by open-ended creative prompts.

Artist Demonstration with Chace Lobley

For two days, Starlight Studio artist and master LEGO builder Chace Lobley will build a surprise LEGO sculpture in Wilson Town Square. 

Drop-In Drawing

Come draw with us in the galleries! Get inspired by our works on view and fun drawing prompts. All supplies are provided, and no experience is necessary. For ages six through adult. Children ages fifteen and under should be accompanied by an adult. Capacity is limited.

Live Painting with Julia Bottoms

Have you ever wondered what's out there? What’s past the stars we can see in the sky? Well, you aren’t alone! Guests of all ages are invited to join in on this weeklong collaborative project, as we use mixed media to construct an entire alien landscape from our minds and ponder the mysteries of the universe. Don’t miss this one—it will be out of this world.

Bird’s Nest Circus Arts Workshop

The Bird’s Nest will give both kids and caregivers a taste of how fun and sneakily beneficial circus arts can be in the form of hula hooping, juggling/prop manipulation and basic partner acroyoga stations that they can rotate through at their leisure.
