Danielle De Jesus (b. 1987) is a Nuyorican painter and photographer born and raised in Bushwick, Brooklyn, whose works tell the story of growing up in New York City amid gentrification and displacement. De Jesus’s background is in photography, and she utilizes her images of the people native to Bushwick as a reference to tell the story of the community’s displaced residents. De Jesus’s work has been included in prominent group shows at the Akron Art Museum, Ohio (2022), and at MoMA PS1, New York. Her paintings are held in the permanent collections of the Pérez Art Museum Miami; El Museo del Barrio, New York; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York.
