Angel Otero was born in 1981 in Santurce, Puerto Rico, where he lived until moving to Chicago in 2004. Since the 2000s, he has explored chance-based processes and their potential to convey memory and history through materiality. His most recent practice involves painting and the collage of dreamlike scenes upon vibrant fabric canvases, depicting objects and spaces that are loosely based on personal memories associated with the domestic sphere. He currently splits his time between New York and Puerto Rico. Otero has had solo exhibitions at Hauser & Wirth, West Hollywood (2024), and Lehmann Maupin, New York (2021), and his works are included in the collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; Istanbul Modern; and the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York, among other institutions.

Desde la década de 2000, ha explorado procesos basados en el azar y su potencia para transmitir la memoria y la historia por medio de la materialidad. Su práctica más reciente involucra pintura y collage para crear escenas oníricas sobre lienzos coloridos y representar objetos y espacios vagamente basados en recuerdos personales asociados a la esfera de lo doméstico. Actualmente, divide su tiempo entre Nueva York y Puerto Rico. Otero ha tenido exposiciones individuales en Hauser & Wirth, West Hollywood (2024), y Lehmann Maupin, Nueva York (2021).
