Born in Tampico, Mexico, in 1981, Ana Teresa Fernández grew up in California and now makes her home in San Francisco. She uses tools of performance, video, photography, painting, and sculpture to enact the narratives that divide and bind us as humans sharing a fragile and beautiful planet. Fernández characterizes her work in this way: “Where unimaginable conditions are the reality, I seek to portray dreamscapes of what’s possible. The courage to transform is up to us.” She has had residencies and public work in Haiti, Brazil, Spain, South Africa, Cuba, Mexico, and throughout the United States. Fernández’s work is held in the permanent collections of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, and 21c Museum Hotels, Louisville, among many others.

Con herramientas de performance, video, fotografía, pintura y escultura recrea narrativas que nos dividen y nos unen como seres humanos mientras compartimos este planeta hermoso y frágil. Fernández describe su obra así: «Cuando condiciones inimaginables constituyen la realidad, busco retratar paisajes de ensueño de lo que es posible. La valentía para transformarnos depende de nosotros». Ha hecho residencias artísticas y trabajo social en Haití, Brasil, España, Sudáfrica, Cuba, México y todo Estados Unidos.
