Wilmers Galleries
Join us for a day of discussion, curriculum connections, and activities inspired by the special exhibition, Ali Banisadr: Temple of the Mind. This is the Buffalo AKG’s first time in our greater history inviting an artist to host interventions in our permanent collection galleries. In the Wilmers galleries, thoughtful pairings of Banisadr’s work and museum collection works spark dialogue—effectively merging past and present. Join Manager of School & Tour Programs, Lindsay Kranz, and Gallery Teacher, Hannah Cappuccino, to explore how to use these artworks as a catalyst for student-centered learning.
We’ll begin with a tour of this beautiful special exhibition to learn about Ali Banisadr and his approach to world-building and imagination. The workshop will continue with a hands-on activity inspired by his works of art.
You are welcome to bring your own lunch, enjoy a meal on-site at Cornelia, or head off-site.
After lunch, we’ll tour the museum’s hemicycle gallery, which will include reference materials, small works, studies, and library materials to provide further insight into the artist’s way of working and thinking. Afterward, the group will explore a variety of printmaking techniques that tie into his practice.
In a time when the world is increasingly divided, Banisadr’s works remind us of our interconnectedness. The works convey a sense of the micro and macro simultaneously, allowing us to zoom in and out, all while slowing down to take in the work in full. CTLE credit will be available.
