  • Jill, 1959

    Frank Stella

A pattern of concentric, white diamond shapes fills this otherwise black canvas. The pattern extends from the paintings center at regular intervals of two and a half inches with the largest diamonds partially cut off at the work’s edges.
  • The Inverted Sink, 1985

    Robert Gober

A large white plaster sculpture that takes the form of a thick, inverted V hangs from a blue-gray wall. The apex of the V comes to a sharp point whereas the left and right corners are curved.
  • Nocturne—Orangerie Staircase, Versailles, 1908

    Edward Jean Steichen

    Nocturne—Orangerie Staircase, Versailles
  • Bucolic Landscape, 1945

    Milton Avery

A bright yellow cow, seen from the rear, sits in a grassy field on the left side of this horizontally oriented canvas. On the right, a reddish path leads into a dense woodland, and above the cow on the left, a narrow rectangle of pink sky emerges behind rolling green hills. Short red flowers are visible in the foreground, and a single, scraggly tree juts out of the ground in the upper-left corner. The colors are soft and bright, suggesting a warm, sunny day.
