Candida Alvarez’s Puerto Rican parents arrived in Brooklyn a few years prior to her birth in 1955. Alvarez is known for complex, vibrantly layered paintings that combine abstract and figurative forms rich in pop, historical, and modern art references. She currently lives and works in Chicago and Baroda, a small town in Michigan. She has had solo exhibitions at El Museo del Barrio, New York (2025), and the Monira Foundation at Mana Contemporary in Chicago (2024), and has participated in notable group exhibitions at the MCA Chicago (2022–23) and the ICA Boston (2023), among others. Her work is held in many museum collections, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, and The Art Institute of Chicago. In 2023, she was artist in residence at the LUMA Foundation, Arles, France, and at Skowhegan School of Painting & Sculpture, Madison, Maine. Alvarez is one of eighteen artists selected to produce a permanent commission for JFK’s 2026 Terminal 6 project.

Patrick Martinez (b. 1980, Pasadena) maintains a diverse practice that includes mixed-media landscape paintings, neon sign pieces, cake paintings, and his Pee Chee series of appropriative works. His landscape paintings composed of Los Angeles surfaces—distressed stucco, spray paint, window security bars, vinyl signage, ceramic tile, and neon sign elements—evoke place and socioeconomic position, unearthing sites of personal and cultural loss. The artist lives and works in L.A. He has exhibited at the Studio Museum in Harlem, New York; the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery, Washington, D.C.; and the Tucson Museum of Art, among other venues, and was featured in the 2025 Made in LA Biennial at the Hammer Museum. Martinez was awarded a 2020 Rauschenberg Residency, Captiva Island, Florida, and a 2022 residency at the Atlantic Center for the Arts, New Smyrna Beach, Florida. His work resides in the permanent collections of The Broad, Los Angeles; the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and the Buffalo AKG Art Museum.

Yvette Mayorga (b. 1991) is a Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist known for her Rococo-inspired reliefs that merge confectionary labor with found images to explore themes of belonging. As a first-generation Latinx artist, she makes pink-dominated work that celebrates femme power while questioning the allure of consumer culture and the American Dream. Mayorga’s work has been shown in group exhibitions at the Museum of Arts and Design, New York, and the Vincent Price Art Museum, Monterey Park, California, and she has had solo exhibitions at The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield, Connecticut (2024), and The Momentary at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas (2022). Her works are in the collections of 21c Museum Hotels, Louisville, Kentucky; Crystal Bridges; El Museo del Barrio, New York; and the City of Chicago’s permanent public art collection at O’Hare International Airport. She has been featured in Artforum, ARTnews, DAZED, and many other publications.
