DAUGHTERS OF CREATIVE SOUND is an African American Women’s drum and percussion ensemble that has delivered hundreds of programs throughout Western NY and beyond at schools, colleges, libraries, religious institutions, correctional facilities, community centers, and more since 2004. The group has been honored for its talent and willingness to say “yes” when its multi-disciplinary efforts are needed. They are musicians, storytellers, historians, and community servants.
KARIMA AMIN is a retired teacher, published author, and prisoner justice advocate. She is well known for her storytelling, which was featured on local radio station WBLK-FM for 10 years.
SHARON JORDAN HOLLEY is a retired public librarian, published author, and genealogist. She is well known for being the owner (with her husband, Kenneth) of Buffalo’s only Black book store, Harambee Books and Crafts, for 20 years, and is currently known as Zawadi Books.
SANDRA WILLIAMS BUSH is a retired public librarian, avid historian, and genealogist. She frequently travels to places inspired by her love of Black history.
DENISE CHAPMAN ACOSTA is a retired teacher, popular ZUMBA instructor, and dancer. Her great dance moves are featured on YOUTUBE’s “Happy BUFFALO” video. Denise was a “Buffalo Jills” cheerleader back when the Bills were on fire!
