While composing his chamber concertoDumbarton Oaks, Igor Stravinsky recounts that he “played Bach regularly and was greatly attracted to the Brandenburg Concertos. Whether or not the first theme of my [first] movement is a conscious borrowing from the third Brandenburg, however, I do not know.”

The Buffalo Chamber Players presents Stravinsky’s neoclassical masterpiece alongside works by Johann Sebastian Bach and Joseph Haydn. The program also includes the world premiere of American composer Scott Wheeler’s Ben Gunn, with texts by Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Paul Muldoon.

A reception with Scott Wheeler and the musicians will follow the performance.
