Shizu Saldamando (b. 1978) is a Los Angeles–based mixed-media artist originally from San Francisco’s Mission District. Her mother’s family is Japanese American and survived the internment camps of World War II. Her father is Chicano from Nogales, Arizona. Primarily concerned with portraiture and drawing, Saldamando experiments with a broad range of surfaces and materials, from wood panels to bedsheets. She employs tattooing, video, painting, and drawing on canvas, wood, paper, and cloth in portraits of peers and loved ones. Saldamando has had solo exhibitions at Occidental College, Los Angeles, and at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, among others. Select group exhibitions include those at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and as part of the Getty Pacific Standard Time initiative at the Japanese American National Museum, Los Angeles. Her work resides in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, Bentonville, Arkansas, and the Santa Barbara Museum of Art.

Shizu Saldamando nació en 1978, en Mission District, San Francisco. Actualmente reside en Los Ángeles. Su familia materna es estadounidense de origen japonés y sobrevivió a los campos de detención de la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Su padre es un chicano de Nogales, Arizona. Interesada sobre todo en el dibujo y el retrato, Saldamando experimenta con una amplia gama de superficies y materiales, desde paneles hasta sábanas. Usa el tatuaje, el video, la pintura y el dibujo sobre lienzo, madera, papel y tela para retratar a sus pares y sus seres queridos.
