Bony Ramirez was born in 1996 in the town of Tenares in the Dominican Republic. His rural upbringing, his first encounters with Catholic imagery, and sources as varied as Italian Mannerism, Renaissance portraiture, and children’s illustrations reverberate within and around his fictional characters. Ramirez creates his heavily stylized figures on paper and adheres them onto wood panels that feature idyllic, colorful backdrops of Caribbean imagery. He currently lives and works in Jersey City, New Jersey. He has exhibited at the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth, Bradley Ertaskiran, Montreal, and the Newark Museum of Art, among other venues. Ramirez was recognized in the Forbes 30 Under 30 Arts & Style category in 2023, and The Artsy Vanguard 2021. His work is in the permanent collections of the ICA Miami, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, and the Newark Museum, among others.
